Since the earliest days of the Salk Institute, founder Jonas Salk envisioned a place where culture and art converged with the scientific research that exemplifies the Institute’s core mission. From the 21 years of Symphony at Salk to this, our fourth season of the Salk Science & Music Series, we have endeavored to continue his dream by fostering a creative and culturally fulfilling environment for our scientists and for our community.
Prompted by the extraordinary gift of Steinway Concert Grand #191 from the late Conrad Prebys, the Institute formed an ambitious program melding amazing science and inspiring music for the San Diego community. Running from October through April, the six-concert series in this fourth season will include passionate performances from some of the world’s most talented emerging musicians, coupled with a talk by one of our renowned faculty members who will share recent insights and discoveries. This special marriage of art and science sets this program apart from all others.
I hope you will enjoy these select Sunday afternoons of science and music, and partner with us in our mission to discover the mysteries of biology that provide the foundation leading to cures and a better quality of life for all. Come along with us to be amazed and inspired.
